Unit 1 – Safety & Lab Introduction
Students will familiarize themselves with lab equipment and safety protocols, and they will conduct a simple investigation to practice collecting and analyzing data. They will become familiar with modeling in chemistry as well.

Unit 2 – Measurements
Students will review quantitative skills required to achieve in chemistry. The chemistry concepts of density and specific heat will help frame their understanding of the need for numbers and units in chemistry.

Unit 3 – The Atom
Students will learn about atoms and how they are organized on the periodic table. They will also be exposed to a general orientation of the periodic table.

Unit 4 – Molecules & Bonding
Students will begin to learn how atoms come together to create compounds. Naming, structure, and shapes of molecules will be explored.

Students will be exposed to the specifics of how reactions proceed, both on the macroscopic and particle level.

Unit 6 – States of Matter
The states of matter, including aqueous, will be investigated. Along with that, reaction types and intermolecular forces will be introduced.

Students will learn properties of acids and bases, reactions between acids and bases, and less conventional classifications of acids and bases.

Students will first understand what equilibrium is, then they will learn about shifts in equilibrium.

Students will learn about reaction rates and what affects them. An emphasis of kinetics vs. thermodynamics finish off the unit.

Students will learn all about carbon and the important chemistry it is responsible for.
